An out-of-this-world fun adventure.

Amazing motorized machine Chitty Chitty Bang Bang sends the Tooting family to the moon in an out-of-this-world fun adventure. The third title in the series approved by original creator Ian Fleming’s estate, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG: Over the Moon includes time travel, harrowing escapes, space travel and wonderful illustrations that bring the characters and mighty car to vivid life.

The story begins with the Tootings stranded in 1966 London, just before the only winning World Cup Final for England. Lucy does not like the micro miniskirts or psychedelic colors, and wants to try and find Chitty with her brothers. Her parents are desperate to see the match, or at least be close to it outside the stadium. When the whole family goes for a ride in the Queen’s Royal car, they realize they are missing Little Harry. While they are in the car, they also witness the famous Big Ben tower take off like a rocket.

They encounter the Potts family, who owned Chitty back when it was green in the 1960’s, and learn that the Potts parents are with Chitty, Little Harry and villain Tiny Jack --- in Big Ben. The two Potts children team up with the Tootings to try and rescue them, only to watch as Chitty is mashed into a tiny cube.

Mr. Tooting is able to fix her in a funny scene involving special paint and time travel, and soon they are flying to the North Pole, only to find Big Ben but no family members. They rendezvous with Tiny Jack on his spaceship and realize he has stolen many of the world’s greatest treasures, including gold Chitty from modern times. They also find the elder Potts couple and Little Harry. Tiny Jack and his evil Nanny force them all to celebrate Tiny’s birthday, and the Tootings realize that they harmed Tiny when they last left him by himself in New York City. He would have preferred to spend his life playing hide and seek in the rainforest as outlined in a previous book.

Tiny Jack convinces several of them to take him to the moon in Chitty for his birthday and they do so, only to have him steal the Moon Buggy and leave them stranded. Meanwhile, the older Chitty is commandeered by Jem and the others who did not travel with Tiny, and they embark on a rescue.

After the two families are reunited, they work together to return all the things Tiny stole, and to return him to a time when he was happy. The resolution of the time traveling is that the Potts must decide where --- and when --- they want to exist in a bittersweet ending.

At times the time travel is mind-bending, but the characters show depth and heart along with the magical car. Even Tiny Jack is shown to be a sympathetic character here. The illustrations add another level of creativity to this enjoyable read. The moon is a creative plot twist and readers will enjoy meeting some famous astronauts there. Fans of THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH and the original Ian Fleming Chitty Chitty Bang Bang story will especially appreciate this zany caper.

When the Tootings family finds themselves trapped in the 60s, there’s nothing to but just enjoy it. Until they bump into Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the family that owned it in that era. The book starts out a little slow but then jumps right into the wacky adventures (at least I'd call chasing Big Ben and visiting the moon a bit on the wacky side).

Very few things top the original. This is no exception, but it’s still a good book especially for kids (of all ages). Technically it could be a stand alone book but I'd recommend reading the prior books first.

Do I smell a rat?

I've been reading many of the negative reviews on this page, and I think I see a pattern.
Each review of the kind I'm talking about awards the book one star. Each review is by an anonymous person identified only as "a reader," typically writing from Canada, Australia, the UK, or South Africa. Each review uses terms that an average reader would have a tough time understanding: "hermetic and self-referential rationales," "stacked and constrained syllogisms and heuristics," "factors of early zygote-blastocyst miscarriage and totipotency," "neoplatonic chora," "self-referential epistemologies," "monocausal presuppostions" ... you get the idea.
A common feature in these reviews is a rather vague criticism of Aristotelian logic, without any explanation of why such logic is bad. Another recurring theme is a claim that Beckwith's work cites too few reliable scientific sources ... again, without specifics.
All in all, I think this pattern strongly suggests that there's one person behind a great many of these damning reviews. This person detests the book, has lots of free time to devote to vague, critical, unsupported but intellectual-sounding reviews, and appears to be trying to overwhelm the rest of us by flooding this page with his/her own opinion (masquerading as lots of different people).
When I also consider Dr. Beckwith's unanswered requests for a substantive critique, I must declare that I smell a rat here.
Whoever you are, please spare us your heaps of airy rhetoric. Either send Dr. Beckwith a detailed, well-supported critique and prove your point in the objective marketplace of ideas, or get off your soapbox and spend your time more productively ... elsewhere.
Kudos, Dr. Beckwith. Keep poking holes in the arguments of pro-abortionists and relativists.

This book is probably one of the very best books available on the issue of abortion in America. I will have to join the chorus of reviewers who have applauded this fine book. The author, a Ph. D in philosophy, critiques 68 arguments for abortion rights (i.e. "pro-choice) and systematically refutes them.
Professor J.P. Moreland said this about the book:
For some time now we have needed a book that lays out and responds to the various pro-choice arguments in a detailed, systematic way. [This book] does this admirably... It is unique in combining a through catalog of the issues with a sophisticated response that remains accessible to the general reader.
As a brief side note, do not be put off by the negative reviews. The criticism is vague and often does not cite SPECIFIC pages or SPECIFIC arguments; I find such criticism difficult to believe (there are one or two exceptions to this though).
If you are pro-life, then reading this book is invaluable. If you are pro-choice, then you will find this book difficult, for the pro-choice view is hardly the given truth that it is billed to be. However, the author has requested substantive critiques, and has said (see Editorial Reviews for the author's comments) that he has not received them.
Beckwith evaluates MANY abortion rights arguments:
Why don't pro-lifers adopt the babies they don't want aborted? Argument from 'no one knows when life begins,' Argument from privacy, Argument from the dangers of illegal abortion, argument from rape and incest and many of the others. This will help you in discussing the issue with other people, responding to newspaper article and even knowing how to critique professional philosophers that hold to the abortion rights position.
Beckwith also argues for the full humanity of the unborn. The pro-life position that Beckwith defends is as follows:
1. The unborn entity, from the moment of conception, is fully human.
2. It is prima facie wrong to kill an entity which is fully human.
3. Almost every act of abortion is intended to kill the unborn entity, an entity which is fully human.
4. Therefore, almost every act of abortion is prima facie wrong.

Note that the position Beckwith defends is very precise and pro-lifers would do well to adopt his formulation of the argument.
The other parts of the book that do not evaluate abortion rights arguments or argue for the pro-life position are:
Chapter 1: The Possibility of Moral Reasoning
Chapter 2: Why Abortion on Demand Is Legal in America
Chapter 1 deals with the idea of reasoning in morality and shows that the idea of moral relativism (that there are no moral absolutes) is false. For more on relativism, see "Relativism: Feet Planted Firmly in Mid-Air," by Francis Beckwith and Gregory Koukl (see my review).
Chapter 2 explains why abortion for any reason at all is currently legal through all nine months of pregnancy in the United States, contrary to those who claim that it is only legal until the first trimester (the first three months of pregnancy).
Also included are two interesting Socratic dialogues in which Socrates arrives to debate 1988 Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis and another in which Socrates discusses Operation Rescue and civil disobedience.
The book has a bibliography and there are a total of 431 footnotes where Beckwith documents his facts, quotations and refers to other philosophers and their works.

Do I smell a rat?

I truly enjoyed Dr. Beckwith's point-by-point refutation of the most common pro-abortion arguments. This book has greatly improved my ability to winsomely and intelligently respond to pro-abortion catchphrases. I look forward to reading Dr. Beckwith's revised version as soon as it appears.
New topic: I'd like to point something out to folks reading the reviews posted here. I've been reading many of the negative reviews on this page, and I think I see a pattern.
Each review of the type I'm talking about awards the book one star. Each review is by an anonymous person identified only as "a reader," typically writing from Canada, Australia, the UK, or South Africa. Each review uses terms that an average reader would have a tough time understanding: "hermetic and self-referential rationales," "stacked and constrained syllogisms and heuristics," "factors of early zygote-blastocyst miscarriage and totipotency," "neoplatonic chora," "self-referential epistemologies," "monocausal presuppostions" ... you get the idea.
A common feature in these reviews is a rather vague criticism of Aristotelian logic, without any explanation of why such logic is bad. Another recurring theme is a claim that Beckwith's work cites too few reliable scientific sources ... again, without specifics.
All in all, I think this pattern strongly suggests that there's one person behind a great many of these damning reviews. This person detests the book, has lots of free time to devote to vague, critical, unsupported but intellectual-sounding reviews, and appears to be trying to overwhelm the rest of us by flooding this page with his/her own opinion (masquerading as lots of different people). When I also consider Dr. Beckwith's unanswered requests for a substantive critique, I must declare that I smell a rat here.
Whoever you are, please spare us your heaps of airy rhetoric. Either give us or Dr. Beckwith a detailed, well-supported critique and prove your point in the objective marketplace of ideas, or get off your soapbox and spend your time more productively elsewhere.
Kudos, Dr. Beckwith. Keep poking holes in the arguments of pro-abortionists and moral relativists.

Leo Treitler, Distinguished Professor of Music at the City University of New York, is the author of Music and the Historical Imagination, as well as other books and articles on music historiography and medieval music.

Robert P. Morgan, historian, composer, and theorist, received his Ph.D. from Princeton University and is currently on the music faculty at Yale University.

Definitive Collection

Like the previous 6 volumes in this series, vol. 7 is the definitive collection of musical essays from this time period. Deciding what to include in this volume must have been a very difficult task since there is so much more material available from the 20th century than from previous time periods; and since the editors produced this volume so chronologically near the 20th century, it is impossible to know which readings will "stand the test of time." Yet Robert Morgan has done an outstanding job editing this volume (and Leo Treitler as general editor) to include a wide range of relavent materials. This is an excellent resouce for anyone who wants to learn more (or teach) about music in the 20th century. Don't try to read it front to back. Instead, read whichever essays look most interesting to you first, and save the rest until they become those that look the most interesting.

This book is proving to be an invaluable resource for discussions about 20th century music. It is interesting (of oftentimes amusing) to read about how people were reacting to various trends happening at the time. Definitely a must if you are studying 20th century music/music history!

I'm so excited about King and Gabi's story.  It has all the things I love best in a romance story: sexy alpha hero, feisty heroine, cute-as-a-button toddler,scandal, glitz and a pretty awesome setting. 
 
Gabi said goodbye to King when he was in a holding area at the police station. Seeing her first lover in handcuffs, having him reject her love and tell her to leave, wasn't exactly the stuff dreams were made of.  She went away, licked her wounds and started over as a nanny.  In a way, she used thefamily she worked for as a place to heal and focus on what she wanted for herself and it definitely wasn't NFL quarterback Kingsley Buchannan.
 
That night changed King.  Though he and his best-friend were cleared of the charges the stigma of having been arrested remained.  He has done is best to move on but he knows until the mystery of the past and who really killed Stacia is solved he is going to have a cloud hanging over him and his family.
 
He comes back to California's gorgeous Northern Coast to fix past mistakes and that includes the way he rejected Gabi.  She's grown into a beautiful, confident woman who he wants in his life but convincing her to take a chance on him is hard.

everything else in her life is fine, just fine

People sometimes focus so much on what has happened that they can forget what the future may be if they could just get over it.

Gabriella de la Cruz had moved on from college. She was no longer the same girl that she was. In fact after taking a year of and being “volunteered” into a nanny role she actually has come away with a career she loves and a business she is proud of. So what if she hasn’t had a date in a while, she’s just picky, everything else in her life is fine, just fine.

Kingsley Buchanan never left the whispers or the stares, his reputation has stalked him since that one fateful night in college. Even though he was cleared through the law, he wasn’t cleared in everyone’s mind. Now with the 10 year anniversary of that night coming up and his son to think about all he can think about is how to clear this up and start his life in the clear.

Kingsley and Gabriella shared one fateful night in college and then everything got crazy, now almost ten years later could they actually put the past behind them and start again?

Ms. Garbera has created a really amazing story here. This is definitely the first of at least two novels that will have you on your toes throughout the whole story. What isn’t to like? A fast paced novel, murder, romance, a dad who would move mountains for his son, a strong female lead…. There is just so much to love and too capture the reader. This is one you won’t want to put down but may leave you frustrated if you don’t get the sequel right away because while there is a HEA for these two there is another story line dying to come out.

Good book.

Good second chance story with an underlying mystery. Ten years earlier, Gabi and King had been college sweethearts when he and his friend Hunter were accused of murder. In order to protect her, King said hurtful things, driving her away. Now King and Hunter are back in California, determined to find out the truth and take their revenge. King hopes that Gabi might remember something from that night, and hires her as nanny to his son to get her into his home.

Gabi has never forgotten her feelings for King, though she has tried to move on. She is nervous about having him back in her life, afraid of getting her heart broken again. But resisting King now is just as hard as it was before, and now there is the added appeal of his adorable son, Conner.

I liked King. At the beginning he comes across as a bit arrogant and way too focused on his revenge, but it quickly becomes obvious that there is a lot more to him. First, he is completely devoted to his son. Though he is haunted by what happened to him, his biggest motivation for clearing his name is so that Conner doesn't suffer because of it. Second, he feels guilty about the way he treated Gabi, even though he had done it to protect her. Part of the reason for getting her to live in is so that he can try to make amends.

I liked Gabi, too, though there were times when she frustrated me. Though devastated by her treatment by King, she had attempted to move on with her life. I liked her independence and the confidence she had built up in the years since she had last seen him. I really enjoyed the way that she stood up to him when he barged into her office. And though she tried to insist on keeping things professional, it didn't take long for her to realize that the attraction was too strong.

I really enjoyed seeing Gabi and King get to know each other as the adults they are now. The chemistry between them is still strong, but there is more than that. I liked that Gabi is still convinced of his innocence, and that she wants to help him with the investigation. King is appreciative, but he still wants to protect her from the consequences of being involved. She worries about his fixation on revenge and that it could have worse consequences that just letting it go. She got a better understanding of his motivations when she experienced some of the backlash of being involved with him, but she still wants him to give up on the idea of revenge, even if he discovers who the real culprit is. I hurt for them both as that need for revenge pushed them apart. The ending was sweet and romantic as King and his son join forces to show Gabi that love is stronger.

Conner is adorable and shown pretty realistically. He isn't perfect, and has age appropriate reactions and meltdowns. He is also the motivating factor for King's attempts to clear his name. I liked the way that it is through their relationships with him, that the softer sides of both King and Hunter are shown. I also liked what I saw of Hunter. He has quite a reputation with the ladies, but I get the feeling it is a front to hide his real emotions.

The mystery is an interesting one, with a theme taken right out of current headlines. With ten years behind them, both King and Hunter are now mature enough to pursue the truth. Though some new information is discovered it isn't enough and we are left waiting for Hunter's story to get answers.

An interesting mix of romance, murder and mystery, and a really adorable toddler who pulls on your heartstrings.

Kingsley is the All-American hunk, a former football star, rich and successful in his family's business, and the widowed father of three year old Connor. He wants to prove he is not guilty of the murder of a college girl his best friend Hunter was dating----even though he and Hunter were said to be the last two with her when she was alive. He doesn't want the former, unjust accusation of murder to cast a dark shadow on his sons life. He reunites with his old flame, Gabbi, when he hires her as his sons nanny, someone he trusts to watch Connor as he pursues clues to find the real killer.

Gabbi doesn't want to work for the old love she has never forgotten, and finds herself still attracted to, but when Kingsley offers to finance a children's park she is negotiating, she takes the job.

Soon Kingsley and Gabbi are getting serious again, and Connor is crazy over Gabbi. While Hunter and Kingsley continue to investigate the clues, Gabbi and Kingsley discover they really are still passionate, both in lust, and in love. Soon Gabbi is helping investigate.

Connor helped make this story good, and is the reason I went four stars, rather than three and a half. It is a good story, but I found myself getting restless reading too many of Gabbi and Kingsley's thoughts, rather than dialogue. I found myself guessing at the truth about the murder, and rooting for Connors toddler skills, while I watched Kingsley and Gabbi reclaiming the love that was stolen from them years before. The mystery was not solved, as it is a series and there are more clues to be found.

Good for complete green living newbies, not so much if you've as much as dipped your toes into it

This book documents the personal story of Tara, who, after many years living on prescription medications, decided to switch to natural remedies and start living the "organic life". In her book, she shares what medications she was on, the struggles associated with heavily medicated lifestyle, and step-by-step account of what methods she used to get better (meditation, herbalism, clean eating, natural beauty, etc). While an inspiring account of a personal victory over disease, the book has two major drawbacks that readers need to be aware of.

1. Todd Cooper, author of the book's foreword, noted that Tara wrote this book in three months - and, unfortunately, it shows. The quality of writing is low, there are multiple grammar and formatting mistakes, and the hierarchy of headings makes absolutely no sense. The manuscript needed rounds and rounds of edits before it could be released to print, and should have not seen the light of day in its current version. But the most disturbing is the haphazard, jump-around-with-no-clear-linearity timeline. This alone makes the reader very confused and doubtful of the story's account. For example, Tara writes about starting DIM supplement while still in New York to improve her skin acne condition, and how she "saw results overnight!". Yet after her move to California, we read about horrible cystic acne that plagued her for months, until she discovered bentonite clay and "saw results overnight!". So did DIM not work as well as described? Anyone who knows anything about natural remedies will tell you "results overnight" is probably not going to happen, and this book has multiple instances of claiming such outcomes. It is simply an exaggeration of what is possible, and ultimately just not true. It is alarming to see such misleading information in a published book.

2. Pigtailing on that, this book has limitations in audience. If you eat nothing but junk, have never sat for 5 minutes in quiet introspection, or never as much as put some clay on your face, you may find this book useful. For those of you out there who have any simplest idea of how to make a kale smoothie, can get your hands on an app with 5-minute guided meditations, and have tried as much as putting some coconut oil in your hair - this book is completely useless. It is EXTREMELY RUDIMENTARY! I follow Bulletproof, ReWild Yourself, and other podcasts, eat Paleo, meditate daily, read Ruiz and Strauss, and make a few basic home beauty concoctions based on a simple essential oils guide book. If you do any of those or similar things, you know more already than this book will tell you, and it will add none to your arsenal.

To sum up: while portraying a remarkable personal story, this book needs many rounds of edits before it reaches publishable quality, and will add no knowledge for you if you've dabbled into green lifestyle at all. This book's intro claims it will "change your life" and help you become "happier and better you". It won't. I greatly regret the money I spent on the hard copy.

Loved Cured by Nature!

I loved reading Cured by Nature. Tara articulates her struggles in a way that all of us can relate to. It was eye opening and became more of a study journal for me to reference. Have a highlighter ready!!! You will find yourself immediately wanting to use her techniques in your personal struggles. And let me tell you try just one. They really work. I enjoy reading it so much I told two of my family member about it. I will refer back to my highlighted pages often I just know it. It is not a book to put on the shelf. Keep it handy for reviewing.

Classic Brian Stableford. Your genes and their associated proteins about about to bend you over, lets figure out how to save the day. Less developed then the Emortality series and less out there then some of the short fiction (though I have a bias here because short fiction is my favorite fiction). If you like his biotech fiction, you'll like this, if you like the dystopian aspects that were present early in the emortality series before it became more Utopian this should fit nicely (though to be fair the dystopian is just back story while this takes place on a recently colonized alien world that's more rural Rome if Plato has his way then anything).

Action recontact sci-fi. Ambassador scouts fly through the universe to make contact with distant colonies for the first time. Conniving and disillusion follow as the "natives" try to work angles. Stableford writes with competence and the story is entertaining and easy to read.

Interesting and a good light read. this book caused me to read the whole series. After reading the last one in the series it left me wondering what happened next. Well worth the reading time.
